Dawatis Family SoCal Sojourn: Jan 2009

Good day everyone,

I was browsing and saw the link to the S61/67 virtual site last year. Saw some pictures posted which brought back memories from the good old days.

Looks like Mario wants to go back working for SRF!

It's been more than 25+ years since the last time I've been on a ship. One of these days, I told myself, I shall pay a visit to the CV-41 (museum) currently docked in San Diego. And we did, last month, our son Charles (graduated from Arts Institute of Vancouver last December) and our youngest daughter Anne (just got accepted and will be taking nursing this fall 2009) embarked on a journey to Southern California (Chula Vista, San Diego & National City) for a week.

Here are some of the photos, enjoy!

Regards to all,
Jose Mario Dawatis

Ning Birthday Greetings and financial crisis

It is Ning's birthday today and she emailed us back with these pictures attached:

"Everyone!!

Thank you so much for your greetings. Kahit tikoy wala tayo this year, can you imagine force leave kami dito sa work? Since this Feb, all employees in our company [Advance Composite Systems Inc. or ACS] are only working 3 days a week. Medyo naka hold yung mga orders namin.

Please see pictures attached, our shop is located in front of Rivera Pier, what I can remember is our building was the former Battery Shop of S51, fronting kami ng sea, at view sa window namin yung Subic Dock.

Medyo, for luxury kasi ang products namin, RIB (rigid inflatable boats) at Catamarans (we have 2 units being assembled here) kaya limited ang clients. Walang new orders pa as of today, kaya wait and wait lang kami dito.

Mga 5+ commercial vessels are now berthed in SRF ports, walang work din, they may stay here for few months daw. Grabe crisis dito. Kaya pasencya na muna mga kapatid, kapuso at kapamilya.. wala kahit tikoy this year!!

But of course, THANK YOU SO MUCH for all your greetings...regards to everyone."

Maybe Ka Hal et. al. can order a catamaran for us to use when in Subic!

Roland "Rolly" Alinea Sobrepeña: 13 April 1937 - 25 Jan 2009

"Roland [Rolly to his friends at SRF Subic] was born in a small town called Cabangan, Zambales in the Philippines. Of late, he was a long time resident of Los Alamitos, California.

His parents were Fredric Madarang Sobrepeña and Ester Ferrer Alinea who loved him dearly.

He was a responsible young man and took care of his siblings at an early age to assist them in pursuing their education.

He met Emelinda De Guzman Liwanag through a mutual friend and it was love at first sight. At the age of 27, on December 19, 1973, he then married her and had 3 daughters, Emmaruth, Everette and Elanor.

He was the only thorn among the roses and very proud of it. He loved to sing, dance, joke around and most especially be with his family and friends. He was a GREAT man and will truly be missed by the ones who knew him and loved him."

Rolly has worked with Shop 67 and one of the pioneers at Module Section [at the old NEAC Phil], according to Ved Reyes before moving on to PSD as a progressman.
