To All,

I would like to share a couple of pictures taken with Mr Delfin Francisco and his wife, the last time Manong Dilan and I paid a visit on his home in San Diego, Ca. on August 2009.

As of today, Thursday [22 Oct] no words yet heard from the family of Mr Francisco regarding the schedule of services. However, I would like to thank everyone for sending comforting words to the Francisco family via email; which I plan to compile/print and include in the card and flowers I will personally hand to the family in behalf of the Balitaan group. I am expecting the viewing services will start this weekend. Until then, I am still  collecting new messages to be included in the card.

Josefino "Ping" Dumlao Barrera Passes on: 18 July 2009

Former Shop 67 Leadingman 1 [Foreman 1], Josefino "Ping" Dumlao Barrera passed away this morning [18 July] at 6:00 AM in San Diego, California.

Viewing and other funeral arrangments are not yet known at this time. Tentative dates are this weekend, 25-26 July; according to Ms Lou Atienza.

According to the same email forwarded to us from Ms Atienza:

"Papa [Dave's dad, Mr Salvador Dumlao] got out of the hospital July 17 and was able to visit uncle Peping last night through Alma. I cried for Papa that his daily fishing buddy, carpool, and lunch buddy has gone ahead of him."

The late Mr Ping Barrera's youngest daughter, Joy Barrera-Gacad is a 1977-81 apprentice graduate of Shop 67/61.

According to one former workmate, Mr Mario P Baylon Sr:

"Really very sad news! Mr Josefino "Ping" D. Barrera was a very best friend of long standing!

The "D" is for Dumlao, pamangkin siya ni Mr Salvador Dumlao, dad of Dave Dumlao.

When I first came in to Shop 67 in 1954, he was Leadingman I (Foreman I) and Salvador Dumlao was Quarterman (Foreman II) with Mr. Cipriano Manansala. Chief Quarterman was Mr. Fred White, a Visayan-American.

Ping was a very likeable guy, personally and as a supervisor! One time, my landlady suddenly closed shop and I have no place to go. That's how nakilala ko sina Edith and Mrs. Barrera.

Noong nag immigrate siya sa US I lost touch with him. But I consider him one of my best friends -- GOOD BYE AND MAY GOD BLESS YOU, MY FRIEND!"

------------------------

Former Shop 67 and 61 employees offer their sincere condolences and prayers to the family of Mr Josefino "Ping" Dumlao Barrera. May he rest in peace!

------------------------

Special thanks to Dave Dumlao for letting us know of this very sad news.

Makasinigit uli ha....(my favorite...singit. ..hehe)

(corny)"

At siyempre, di papahuli si Ka Hal at ang kanyang IPhone [Inggit ako! Biro nakakapag email at Twitter sa IPhone.]

"In our barrio, there was this young man with an out-of-cal brain who went from one Senakulo to another carrying a big cross. When he came to our place, he placed his cross down the road and lay face down in front of the cross. He was there motionless. What the Barkada did was they sneaked his cross and hid it behind the Senakulo. When he got up, removed his red hood and looked around figuring out what happened to his cross. Then he said, "Mga Putangina ninyo, ilitaw ninyo ang cruz ko kung hindi, ipapako ko kayong lahat." And we all run because he started to chase us. Funny? Maybe not.

Orig yung kay montie...

Hal Sent from my iPhone"

"Walang straw?" (panglimang wika......)

Ano yung pangatlong wika? Ewan ko, tanungin natin si Montie.

Ala lang.... Montie-isms

Yang picture [actually series of pictures] na padala ni Ka Rey V, na nagtatanong "How was you day?

"Thanks. Nice to hear both sides always. But the software that is running those airplanes should be foolproof. I use handbreak when stopping uphill because my Honda will go down as soon you release the footbreak even on drive. Then, I will put gas before I release the lever. Useful in San Francisco hilly streets.

I almost got killed one time while working on an antenna on a mobile radar in Abu Dhabi. The "local" applied power to the equipment to make the airconditioning unit work inside. The radar didn't have a safety switch to prevent the antenna from turning when it is down [for maintenance]. Actually we made sure that the switch is on before we raised it. One Pakistani got multiple broken ribs when he got run over by the radar antenna."

Hal

Balik naman ni Ka tukayong MarMir eh: "He is still alive... he is a Pakistani & his name is IFTIKAR...." May kwento ako kay Iqbal he he he he...."

After mga 10 minutes na check, go uli. Kinabukasan. .....

..........overtime uli ako....."

Dawatis Family SoCal Sojourn: Jan 2009

Good day everyone,

I was browsing and saw the link to the S61/67 virtual site last year. Saw some pictures posted which brought back memories from the good old days.

Looks like Mario wants to go back working for SRF!

It's been more than 25+ years since the last time I've been on a ship. One of these days, I told myself, I shall pay a visit to the CV-41 (museum) currently docked in San Diego. And we did, last month, our son Charles (graduated from Arts Institute of Vancouver last December) and our youngest daughter Anne (just got accepted and will be taking nursing this fall 2009) embarked on a journey to Southern California (Chula Vista, San Diego & National City) for a week.

Here are some of the photos, enjoy!

Regards to all,
Jose Mario Dawatis

Ning Birthday Greetings and financial crisis

It is Ning's birthday today and she emailed us back with these pictures attached:

"Everyone!!

Thank you so much for your greetings. Kahit tikoy wala tayo this year, can you imagine force leave kami dito sa work? Since this Feb, all employees in our company [Advance Composite Systems Inc. or ACS] are only working 3 days a week. Medyo naka hold yung mga orders namin.

Please see pictures attached, our shop is located in front of Rivera Pier, what I can remember is our building was the former Battery Shop of S51, fronting kami ng sea, at view sa window namin yung Subic Dock.

Medyo, for luxury kasi ang products namin, RIB (rigid inflatable boats) at Catamarans (we have 2 units being assembled here) kaya limited ang clients. Walang new orders pa as of today, kaya wait and wait lang kami dito.

Mga 5+ commercial vessels are now berthed in SRF ports, walang work din, they may stay here for few months daw. Grabe crisis dito. Kaya pasencya na muna mga kapatid, kapuso at kapamilya.. wala kahit tikoy this year!!

But of course, THANK YOU SO MUCH for all your greetings...regards to everyone."

Maybe Ka Hal et. al. can order a catamaran for us to use when in Subic!

Roland "Rolly" Alinea Sobrepeña: 13 April 1937 - 25 Jan 2009

"Roland [Rolly to his friends at SRF Subic] was born in a small town called Cabangan, Zambales in the Philippines. Of late, he was a long time resident of Los Alamitos, California.

His parents were Fredric Madarang Sobrepeña and Ester Ferrer Alinea who loved him dearly.

He was a responsible young man and took care of his siblings at an early age to assist them in pursuing their education.

He met Emelinda De Guzman Liwanag through a mutual friend and it was love at first sight. At the age of 27, on December 19, 1973, he then married her and had 3 daughters, Emmaruth, Everette and Elanor.

He was the only thorn among the roses and very proud of it. He loved to sing, dance, joke around and most especially be with his family and friends. He was a GREAT man and will truly be missed by the ones who knew him and loved him."

Rolly has worked with Shop 67 and one of the pioneers at Module Section [at the old NEAC Phil], according to Ved Reyes before moving on to PSD as a progressman.

Mar Mir and Family

The first picture of Mario Mirador and his "bunso" just was taken last December 2008 in Manaoag.

While the family picture was two years ago but according to our kabalitaan, nothing much has changed.
